"What
youngster has not dreamed of flying with Peter Pan
over moonlit London, or tumbling into Alice's
nonsensical Wonderland? In Fantasyland, these classic
stories of everyone's youth have become realities for youngsters-of
all ages-to participate in."
~Walt Disney~ |

"Want to know a secret?
Promise not to tell? We are standing by a wishing well.
Make a wish into
the well, that's all you have to do.
And if you hear it echoing, your wish will soon come true."
~Snow White~

| The
Matterhorn was not present, in its current form or name, in
Disneyland on opening day. Rather, it was a hill created from
the dirt removed while creating foundations and a moat for
Sleeping Beauty's Castle. Originally called "Lookout
Mountain," this hill was a picnic area with shady trees
for guests to relax under. Unfortunately when the wind picked
up, much of the dirt used to create that hill would still
be blown about causing a mess for Disneyland and Guests alike.
A solution for this inconvenience was found after Walt visited
filming of a Disney Feature Film in Switzerland. Hence the
creation of "The Matterhorn." When it opened the
147 foot tall mountain was mainly hollow and it wouldn't be
until the 1960's that snow and an abominable snowman would
be added to the insides. |
